DEDSA w/Shy Guy, Creature Comfort & The Subnovas

When: Thu., June 5, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $5
Maybe calling bands that have been around a year or two “fresh faces” is a bit of a misnomer, but semantic arguments notwithstanding, the four on tonight’s lineup are among the cream of Nashville’s recently formed crop. Headliners DEDSA melt hyperactive electronic sounds into a dense landscape that’s thick with jazzy riffage, while their left-field sense of humor and impressive technical chops put them in line as millennial heirs to the Mothers of Invention throne. Shy Guy’s polished neoclassical spin on shoegaze has pulled a lot of ink in this rag lately, but by gum, they earn it, with an excellent show we enjoy more every time we see it. Creature Comfort’s take on contemporary indie rock gives you a little taste of the sweet side, balanced out by the inventive texture-bending and moody controlled chaos of Subnovas. If you don’t get out much for the locals, make an exception for this show. STEPHEN TRAGESER
