It's easy to dismiss a dude twiddling on a laptop wearing a giant mouse helmet with strobe light eyestrust us on this onebut the Canadian producer/performer Deadmau5 is more than just the sum of his ridonkulous-looking headgear. Exploding from relative obscurity to worldwide fame in less than four years, Mau5 manages to make mainstream electronic music without ever getting into treacly Top 40 territory. His progressive house sound, with its tinges of trance and electro, might send parochial EDM purists into fits of rage, but it's hard to argue with the dude's ability to pack a dance floor or a trophy case. The last two years have seen him rack up a couple of Juno Awards (Canadian Grammys, eh), clean house at the download store Beatport and place in the Top 10 of last years DJ Mag poll, not to mention an actual Grammy nomination. The dude is obviously way more than a mouse helmet.
