David Vandervelde at Exit/In

The Velvet Vandervelde

The Velvet Vandervelde
However much David Vandervelde may be steeped in '70s rock "isms," this is one musician who is hardly stuck in the past when it comes to production. Utilizing modulated vocals, sonic layers of overdub, tape delay and whatever else may be at his fingertips, Vandervelde just can't be kept out of the studio. Though no follow-up to last year's Waiting for the Sunrise is officially on the horizon, he has recently released a free download album that includes a single, 16-minute track titled "Psychedelic Saturday" recorded with Chicago band Where the Moon Came From, which required about 300 tracks gleaned from a four-hour improv session. With so many tricks up his sleeve, there's no telling what step this young talent might take next.
