History and great minds collide with absurdity when Charles Darwin, Thomas Huxley and Samuel Wilberforce (bishop of Oxford) convene on a veranda on the California coast, engaging in enthralling and thought-provoking debate about God, science, creationism...and plastic surgery. Tennessee Rep's production is the regional premiere of Crispin Whittell's fanciful British comedy, which should find a mirthful resonance here in the state that gave the world the "Scopes Monkey Trial." The Rep's final entry in its 2008-2009 season is under the direction of Rene Copeland and delivers a strong cast, with the estimable Henry Haggard as the father of natural selection. Chip Arnold, Sam Whited and Kahle Reardon are also featured.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: May 2. Continues through May 16, 2009
