Wordless Expression
Disabilities so often seem to ride in the sidecar of mysterious prowess. The blind often possess acute hearing beyond the normal range, and the autistic commonly demonstrate dazzling off-the-cuff computationsbut to experience the intimate emotional powers of the disabled, one must look deeper. The works of the artists on exhibit in
Creative Expressions XV at the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center do much to illuminate the vast feelings that reside behind otherwise isolating disabilities. Paintings by Ann Ambrose burst with pathosMagical Tea, for instance, which illustrates a tea party that seems to drink in the sunset blazing through their cups.
