The multi-talented youngest Scruggs has been doing a semi-formal monthly residency at Station Inn for most of the year now. So far, the residency has shown off plenty of his wide-ranging abilities as an affectionate student of classic country songs and styles, along with a soupçon of modernist sensibilities. On this outing, he’ll be backed by the ever-reliable Mike Bub (bass) and the legendary Buddy Spicher on fiddle, along with special guest Kayton Roberts. For those not well-versed in country history, Roberts was for decades Hank Snow’s non-pedal steel whiz — an instrument on which Scruggs also excels — and an unsurpassed stylist on the sadly almost-defunct instrument. Look for a good, leisurely ramble through the songbooks of at least two Hanks (Snow and Williams) from a group of musicians who know them inside out.
