Chris Campbell: Necessary Collector

Nashville's contemporary art scene has a legitimate gripe with local art collectors: they tend to pick local works that are reassuringly safe, while supporting challenging work from out of town. This new show at Ruby Green should serve as a 101 class, advocating Nashville's avant garde to would-be connoisseurs from Belle Meade to Brentwood. With Necessary Collector, gallery director Chris Campbell puts her personal collection on display and makes the case for local faves past and present including Sue Coe, Mark Mulroney, Sandra Bermudez, Mary Shaffer, Terry Glispin, Leslie Kneisel, Sam Dunson, Cheryl Pfeiffer, Angela Willcoks, Jill Larson, Mery Lynn McKorkle, Don Evans, Erin Anfinson, Donte K Hayes, Cecelia Kane, Richard Mitchell, Michael Durham, Donna Stack, Tom Zarilli, Joseph Whitt and Hunter Brice.
