All good things must come to an end, and this is Dale Chihuly’s last day in Music City. After a blockbuster season that found the Goliath of Glass covering Nashville in dual waves of the colorful stuff, the artist’s work now takes its final bow at the Frist Center. Chilhuly’s show at Cheekwood was mostly an outdoors affair that wrapped up in early November. This downtown bookend offers galleries brimming with blaring colors and insistent forms that push the decorative medium toward the limits of expressive, organic abstraction. Do yourself a favor and take in some of the exhibit’s film
Chihuly in the Hotshop. The video features fascinating footage of Chihuly’s glassblowing team doing their thing to an infuriatingly infectious retro soundtrack by Tom Tom Club.
