Charles Martin

In his new novel, Where the River Ends, Martin tells the story of Doss Michaels, a Charleston fishing guide and failed painter, and his critically ill wife, former supermodel Abbie Coleman. Abbie's father, a powerful South Carolina legislator, has never approved of his daughter's choice of a mate--less so after Doss steals Abbie from her death bed in order to fulfill a promise made during their courtship. Rather than spend her final days in hospice care, Abbie and Doss embark on a 130-mile trip down St. Marys River. With daddy in hot pursuit, the pair fight to reach the river's mouth, trying to relive their life together and reclaim some sense of normalcy along the way. But the trip is anything but normal, and the two face physical and emotional challenges that test the strength of their bond. A former college professor and businessman, Martin specializes in heart-tugging prose that makes subtle use of spiritual imagery.
