Cast a Wide Net/Art of Many Women at Square Space Gallery

This Square Ain't No Square
Housed inside a circa 1905 bank building in Gallatin's recently revitalized historic town square, Square Space Gallery is debuting its inaugural exhibit, Cast a Wide Net/Art of Many Women. With a title inspired by a line from Rev. Becca Stevens' book Funeral for a Stranger, Cast a Wide Net features work from 17 women, many of them familiar to area art buffs: Julie Sola, Andie Rudloff, Jennifer Utterback and Marilyn Farnsworth Wendling, to name a few. The pieces in the show reflect gallery owner Dawn Bunetta's eclectic and impeccable taste, evidenced in the items we were able to preview. Our favorite: Claudia Lister's curly-toed slippers, which we suspect might really be Munchkin shoes stolen from the Wizard of Oz prop room. (Apparently good taste runs in the family—Dawn's husband Al is John Prine's manager and the mastermind behind Oh Boy Records, which over the years has been a home to Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Todd Snider and Steve Goodman, to name a few.) The gallery also hosts the amusingly titled Artzy Fartzy Friday the third Friday of each month—see squarespacegallery.net for details.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 10. Continues through Nov. 17, 2009
