Since his 2006 album Days to Come, British electronic musician/producer Bonobo, aka Simon Green, has increasingly favored organic instrumentation, even going so far as to build his live show around a full seven-piece band. This time around, though, Green is strictly here to spin records. For DJ appearances like this one, Green doesn’t touch his own music, preferring instead to play tunes that he anticipates will strike a similar chord in the audience as his own work does. He also wants to get the dance floor moving — no small challenge given the steady evolution of his sound, not to mention the fact that he listens to very little of the down-tempo electronica that listeners might lump him in with. As with any established DJ, the appeal here lies in getting to see how Green reads a crowd and sets a mood, but this set should also offer glimpses into how he views his own material.
