Bobby Osborne and the Rocky Top X-Press

When: Fri., March 25, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $15
Counting from his start with the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers over in Bluefield, WV, Bobby Osborne has spent 60 years in show business, and as his debut for Rural Rhythm Records makes plain, he’s still sounding great. With long-time buddy and constant triple fiddle threat Glen Duncan back for another round as co-producer, Memories is a strong set that finds Osborne reverting to the signature blend of bluegrass and country that he and brother Sonny rode to fame. There are a few special twists — a pair of super-sized instrumentals done with fellow mando monsters, a brilliant guest appearance by Patty Loveless on the title track — but Mr. Osborne and his remarkable voice are mostly front and center, right where they ought to be. Young son Bobby Osborne Jr., popularly known as “Boj,” shares production credits and does a great job of anchoring the Rocky Top X-Press with some stout rhythm guitar.
