Bobby Bare Jr. w/Tristen & Ponychase

When: Fri., Oct. 7, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $10
There aren't too many people in Nashville more suited for the documentary treatment than Bobby Bare Jr. — name somebody else who lost a country Grammy to the Pointer Sisters at age 6 and counted Shel Silverstein as a songwriting confidant. A Bare Jr.-focused doc is in the works, luckily — feature-length Don’t Follow Me (I’m Lost) follows the singer-songwriter around the country in van and onstage, and lets compatriots (including dad Bobby Bare, Justin Townes Earle and My Morning Jacket's Carl Broemel) talk about just how movieworthy the man is. A release isn't set yet (principal photography is done, but filmmakers are fundraising via IndieGoGo to finish it), but you can grab a compelling view into a unique word- and melody-smith via Bare Jr.'s songs, including those on 2010's gritty rock- and gutsy roots-rooted A Storm, A Tree, My Mother's Head. He takes some of those songs to a hometown stage with fellow locals Tristen and Ponychase.
