We've spilled an awful lot of ink last year about the bands playing BLVD Music Shop's grand opening — Diarrhea Planet was one of our “Bands to Watch,” Evan P. Donohue's debut was ranked at No. 6 in our end-of-year music poll, Big Surr played a Scene-hosted edition of Musician's Corner. All excellent, valid bands, for sure, but I can say with authority that Reid Magette is poised to blow them all out of the water. Now armed with a full band (including a surprisingly rad saxophone player), Magette sounds like Bruce Springsteen, if Springsteen was born a few decades late and grew up on a steady diet of Joe Strummer and hot gravel. Magette's songs are big, boisterous tributes to workingman ’80s rock that manage to be thoughtful and in-your-face at the same time. BLVD Music Shop is located on the corner of Belmont and Bernard, where Buzzy's Candy Store used to be.
