Blues Traveler at The Wildhorse

The Hooks, Knives, Guns and Cannons Bring You Back

The Hooks, Knives, Guns and Cannons Bring You Back
Too accessible to be pigeonholed as an outright jam band and too well established on the fringes of Top 40 to be considered one-hit wonders, ’90s horde rockers Blues Traveler still float just above some of popular music’s less desirable frays. Also, for better or worse, singer John Popper is known both for being the guy who brought back the harmonica and for having the distinction of being the first rock star to undergo gastric bypass surgery. Additionally, for owning a Civil War cannon, having a private firing range on his property, and in 2007 having been arrested in possession of four rifles, nine handguns, a switchblade, a Taser, a set of brass knuckles and night-vision goggles—all stashed in hidden compartments of his car—he’s the Charlton Heston of hippie rock.
