Biz Markie

When: Fri., Nov. 4, 9 p.m. 2011
Back in the day, years after “Just a Friend” had been a hit, but years before it was canonized — after it was all over the radio but before it was the unavoidable cultural touchstone it has since become — we caught a Biz Markie DJ set, and it changed our young lives. OK, maybe it didn't change our lives — our adoration of The Biz has consistently been just below stalker level since he dropped “Pickin' Boogers” — but after a decade-and-a-half of watching DJs do their thing, that set still ranks as one of our favorites. Basically, Biz Markie has one of the greatest record collections known to man and more good taste than is legal in most sovereign nations. You can expect, well, the unexpected as Markie doesn't really pay attention to the normal boundaries of party music — deep cuts cozy up with pop hits and the only genre you're likely to hear is what we in the industry call “wicked fucking awesome.”
