Thanks to a massive overhaul last spring, the kids' pool at the Maryland Farms Y looks like freakin' Six Flags Over Brentwood. It's closed now for the season, alas, but when it opens next Memorial Day or thereabouts, your young ones will stare goggle-eyed at the arching fountains, giant bucket deluge, tiered pools and yellow pirate-ship slides. (Sneak off and try the three-story slide in the grown-ups' pool, a veritable water luge that reaches crazy scary speeds.) The splash pad at Smyrna's Gregory Mills Park, 390 Enon Springs Road E., is also dry until next summer, but by that time your kids will be ready to blast each other anew with the park's hose-strength water cannons. In the glare of a 95-degree Middle Tennessee summer, life doesn't get any better. —JIM RIDLEY
