Rumours East

Patio, schmatio. The structure that bridges the back door of Rumours East and the expanse of green lawn in the rear of the yard is a pergola, for Pete's sake. The cozy arbor is multi-tiered to mimic the roofline of the Victorian home it accessorizes, and it's furnished with sturdy wooden tables of various shapes to accommodate parties small and large, a hanging swing sized for two, and a free-standing fireplace built of brick salvaged from one of the original interior fireplaces. By day, sunlight dapples through the arch of massive branches overhead. Into the night, lengths of lights form a twinkling canopy, while fat candle pillars cast a warm light on the most elegant playground in Nashville. —KAY WEST
