Coffee shop, check. Hair salon, check. Delicious restaurants, check. Gourmet chocolatier, coming soon. Historic Germantown has several of the necessary ingredients for a successful neighborhood cocktail (and even some not so necessary) but the straw that stirs the drink of neighborhoodliness is missing. So is the glass, the liquor, the beer and the jukebox. The absence of a bar in this area known for the yearly booze-soaked Oktoberfest, er, Germantown Street Festival causes the growing population of young professionals to seek liquid relief across the river, in Midtown or, God forbid, downtown. Germantown's friendly, sidewalked streets are crying out for the staggering masses returning safely home from the neighborhood local. Where is our Sam Malone? —ROB WILLIAMS
