Best Food Event When Money Is No Object

James Beard Dinner

If you've got time and money on your side, then cross your fingers that chef Martha Stamps reprises the meal she hosted this summer for the James Beard Foundation. Stamps corralled some of the best chefs in the Southeast in the Belle Meade carriage house, where they produced a six-course feast featuring a shrimp torchon with vanilla panna cotta and smoked blueberries and pullet egg yolk raviolo with chanterelles. The $175 event raised money for the Beard Foundation's American Classics award—a program that honors the traditions of classic American cooking—and the evening marked the JBF's first official trip to Nashville. Stamps & Co. really put the big pot in the little one and stewed the dishrag to show the JBF folks a good time. Could an American Classics award be headed this way? —CARRINGTON FOX
