Best Continued Comeback

Ronnie Steine

The hands-down winner is Steine, if only for making it through his first year back in office without total public humiliation. OK, our standards aren't the highest here, but we never thought he could do it. Therapy works wonders. Six years after he resigned as vice mayor and exited the public stage as a prevaricator and petty thief, Steine seems almost normal these days. He mustered the courage, when no one else tried, to stand up against the "English Only" ballot initiative, sponsoring and passing a resolution urging voters to reject xenophobia. At the same time, he's managed to keep his Jupiter-sized ego in check, at least publicly. That's icing on the cake. —JEFF WOODS
