This is an extremely tough call, as we love Barista Parlor too. But Crema roasts a wide variety of excellent coffee beans in house, and they’re damn fine beans to boot — in fact, the self-proclaimed “coffee brewtique” won second and third place respectively in the prestigious Roasters Choice and Brewers Cup competitions at the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s 2013 exposition in Boston (thanks in large part to Crema roasters Sean Stewart and Winston Harrison). That’s the first time a Nashville coffeehouse has won an award in either competition. So we’re giving Rachel and Ben Lehman’s Rutledge Hill java joint the edge. But rumor has it Barista proprietor Andy Mumma has a roasting operation in the works. Next year, it’s anybody’s race.
