Beer and Loathing in Nash Vegas

Perpetually irreverent and delightfully derivative, the Alcohol Stuntband is the piston-pumping, well-oiled vehicle of local funnyman Chris Crofton. Set to bar-rock chord progressions echoing the likes of AC/DC, Metallica or The Stooges, the Stuntband’s true forte is unbridled hilarity—most songs champion an epic level of substance abuse and all the sordid debacles it might inspire. Making full use of his stand-up comic chops, Crofton (a.k.a. the “Alcohol Stuntman”) barks out gems like “Cocaine,” “Snakeskin Snake” and “Gold Paint,” a maniacal tale of a life ruled by huffing (what else?) gold paint. But unlike so many jesters of rock before them, Crofton and his inebriated cohorts deliver their tunes with a healthy dose of irony and an engaging live show. And with as many obnoxiously sincere bleeding hearts as you’ll find in this town, a shot of snotty piss-drunk humor is just what the doctor ordered.
