What is a Southern-rock nerd to do? On the north side of Elliston we’ve got Athens, Ga.,’s Bloodkin, who’ve been crafting some of the best roots rock in the South for over two-and-a-half decades with our main man, the dude with the super-saxy plan, the one, the only, Mr. Bobby Keys. But at the same time, Savannah-based stoner-sludge outfit Baroness is across the street at The End. What’s a poor hesher to do? Go to both! While some folks may think it’s weird that we’d even consider hitting both shows, we think it’s totally logical. Some nights you need artfully crafted, poetry-driven rock ’n’ roll (Bloodkin), and some nights you need a good old-fashioned bludgeoning by some brutal Southern art-metal (Baroness). Some night — most nights, really — we need both, but we’re generally shit out of luck. Not tonight! Nashville’s Southern-rock nerds will be stumbling around the Rock Block in Southern-rock nerd heaven.
