Thought Record Store Day was confined to a solitary Saturday in April? Well you thought wrong, chump! This year, the organizers of Record Store Day have put together an event to drop on the most epic shopping day of the year, meaning instead of looking for Aunt Cheryl’s Christmas present in a pile of half-priced lavender shawls at Kohl’s, you can peruse special releases and reissues at your favorite locally owned record shop. Grimey’s will be carrying all of the special RSD releases, among them Metallica’s Live at Grimey’s 10-inch — an insanely secret set that was recorded in June of 2008 downstairs in The Basement. Other goodies include exclusive releases from The Black Keys — The Keys’ drummer Patrick Carney recently name-dropped Grimey’s in a quote about Record Store Day, by the way — MGMT, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Blur and U2. Doyle Davis of Grimey’s assures us that he “ordered particularly heavy” on the U2 release (a 12-inch vinyl single titled “Wide Awake in Europe” that features three live cuts) in honor of their coming performance at Vanderbilt Stadium in July. There will also be reissues from George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix and more. A Metallica cover band is even slated to play downstairs, and word is that they’ll be performing the exact set from June 2008’s secret show. God bless us, every one.
