The art department at Austin Peay has transformed into Steampunk University. “Steampunk” refers to a style of art, literature and fashion that repurposes the Victorian world with a futuristic twist. It’s like imagining what would happen if H.G. Wells wrote Tron or The Matrix. This summer, the school offered the very first steampunk sculpture class at the university level, and you can view the results of this revolutionary educational endeavor tonight at Provence Breads & Cafe as part of the Hillsboro Village Art Walk. The monthly festival has been drawing huge crowds with its mix of food, drink, art and music. Bring your crayons, as Eakin Elementary will hold a supply drive during the event — and if Steampunk University’s output doesn’t satisfy your sweet tooth for spectacle, check out the fire dancer at nearby Bombasha Brazilian Steakhouse.
