Ashley Haugen Signing and Discussion at Davis-Kidd

Worth a Thousand Words

Worth a Thousand Words
Nashville has never been shy about demolishing historical landmarks. After all, what’s a rickety old speedway when it comes to keeping up with architectural hellholes like Atlanta and Charlotte? To get a complete picture of what’s been lost––and saved––see Ashley Haugen’s Historic Photos of Nashville in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. As a companion volume to 2005’s Historic Photos of Nashville, the book surveys landmarks from Nashville’s more recent past, such as the L&C Tower, 100 Oaks Mall, the Municipal Auditorium and Harvey’s Department Store. All of Haugen’s 200 or so black and white images are taken from the archives of Bob Grannis, a Nashville photographer who chronicled midstate life from 1939 until his retirement in 1997. Ashley Haugen will discuss and sign Historic Photos of Nashville.
