The Artist’s Forum events at the Frist Center are some of the best opportunities in Nashville for hearing artists describe their processes, inspirations and techniques. The presentations are typically informal — the best ones find their feet as free-form discussions instead of strict, pedantic lectures. This time around, the forum is a two-for-one deal featuring a couple of our favorite local sculptors. Carrie McGee’s most familiar pieces feature stained and painted abstract elements on acrylic panels that are strung together with wire. That’s a very clumsy description of some graceful, thoughtful art, and it will be pretty interesting to hear what McGee has to say about how and why she does what she does. Ceramic artist John Donovan’s toy warrior figures are big on both cuteness and concept, referencing cultural violence, the history of the Americas, gaming culture and warfare. Both artists will be discussing pieces they have on display in The Frist’s Martin ArtQuest’s interactive art gallery.
