Including drawings, photogravure, paintings, mixed media, installation, and an electronic gallery of online work, the Art of Protest is a new exhibition at the Art Room of the Vanderbilt Divinity School. The work replies to various political issues of the day, but also comments on political art itself and its place in global culture. Including work by Larry Owens, Sue Coe, Valerie Patterson, Zane Campbell, and Aliene De Souza Howell, the show also features contributions by local artists like Todd Greene, Jimmy Abegg, Herb Williams, Samuel L. Dunson, Dooby Tompkins and Erika Wollam Nichols. It’s a great lineup that promises a lot of variety; the only name missing from the list is Jorge Arrieta, a local artist whose ongoing contributions define what it is to be a activist/artist in Nashville.
Mondays, Wednesdays-Fridays. Starts: Feb. 24. Continues through March 26, 2010
