An Evening with The Independents at The Rutledge

Careless Whispers

Careless Whispers
For a guy who's played Conan and Letterman and collaborated with top-tier talents like Lucinda Williams, the well-traveled Matthew Ryan is one of the lowest-keyed (in whichever since of the term) troubadours in town. Known for his sparse, intimate solo work, his sound isn't so much hushed as it is easy going down—and unlike most of his slow-burn peers, he's artistically averse to the faux-emoting, big-bang theory of ending a track, preferring a simple fadeout over self-consciously burning away. Sharing the stage with the ever-prolific Ryan—he's put out 10 albums in the last 10 years, some self-released—will be Amanda Shires and Rod Picott, Brian Ritchey (Korean is Asian), Daniel Tashian of The Silver Seas and special guest Amelia White.
