Though we made it to the opening of this new show at Blackbird on time, I am sad to say that we didn't win the raffle for $100 of free tattoos. Luckily, Joshua Black Wilkins' Meathis new show of tintype photographsgave us something to chew over while pining for (un)spilled ink. Wilkins' collection of tintype portraits of topless women wearing a pig's head mask plays with the idea of treating the female body as a piece of meat. The maskfar from reinforcing the stereotypeanonymizes its wearers, removing their own self-consciousness and ours with it. The result is an unlikely celebration of natural forms unburdened by vanity, unease or fashion. Jerome Epstein's found-object sculptures are on display in the basement gallery.
