Impressionism, once a groundbreaking movement in 19th century France that asked people to question what it means to “paint from life,” has become a characteristic means of art-making among contemporary painters. The American Impressionist Society (AIS) is a Florida-based organization, and their National Juried Exhibition is a once-a-year event that brings their top artists together to exhibit and learn from each other, and this year Nashville has been chosen as its host city. Impressionism focuses on visible brushstrokes, color and light, which make it a flexible means for illustrating scenes from life, portraits and landscapes — in other words, there will be something for everyone. The show will feature an assortment of paintings by AIS Master Artists and a juried selection from AIS Signature and Associate members of a wide selection of subject matter in oil, acrylic and watercolor mediums.
