AJ Davila w/Plastic Pinks & Cannomen

When: Sun., April 27, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $7
It’s been nearly three years since Puerto Rican garage punks Davila 666 blew the windows out of Springwater and Third Man’s Blue Room. Perhaps A.J. Davila, ringleader of the aforementioned “Menudo on drugs,” thought it was getting a little too quiet around here. To rectify the situation, he makes his return tonight, this time supporting a solo effort, Terror/Amor, which is a little less raucous but no less intense than the 666, as lead single “Duro Como Piedra” (“Hard As A Rock”) proves. He also brings Plastic Pinks, a Miami quintet for whom he has recently produced the single “Yo La Vi,” a gritty Spanish-language nugget that’s as infectious as any release from the current wave of San Francisco garage psych that marches under Ty Segall’s banner. Local hardcore surf-punx The Cannomen, who played with Davila both times he was here in 2011, round out the bill. STEPHEN TRAGESER
