Afro-Cuban All Stars

When: Fri., April 1, 8 p.m. 2011
OK, so it’s been through several lineups and no longer features the late Ibrahim Ferrer and Ruben Gonzalez, who helped make Cuban music the global craze of the 1990s as part of the renowned Buena Vista Social Club ensemble. Would you skip the Grand Ole Opry because you won’t get to see Minnie Pearl or Hank Williams? Bandleader Juan de Marcos Gonzalez and his world-class orchestra prove the Son cubano wasn’t a passing fancy, bringing some of the most torrid, soulful and joyous music on earth to a mere 12 U.S. cities on their current tour —which through some heavenly stroke of luck includes Nashville. If you’ve got dancing shoes that haven’t seen the light of day since the fall of Batista, start polishing.
