A Face in the Crowd

LEON HARRIS, Firewood salesman, Santa and bringer of good cheer

How long have you been in the firewood business? I've been selling wood here (Highway 100) and on Sneed Road for 17 years.

How's business? The colder it is, the better it is.

What's Santa bringing you this year? Well, I hope he don't bring me what he brought me last year.

What's that? He brought me a pair of socks, and they were too big.

So do you want bigger feet or smaller socks this year? Well, now what do you think would make Mrs. Claus happier?

Since you're wearing the hat, do people tell you what they want for Christmas? Yes, they do. I hear Harley Davidson a lot. That boy right over there wants a black one. I told him I was backed up on them right now.

Do you have children? Yes, I have two, but they're grown.

What are you bringin' them for Christmas? They ain't been too good this year.

Do you have a Christmas wish for the world? For every sick person in the world to get well....
