A Face in the Crowd

LAURIE ELIZABETH WILLIAMS, a.k.a. ELORIS WILLIAMS PRESLEY, singer/songwriter, artist, actress and former model. Member of the Carter, Cash, Smith, Stewart, Williams and Presley families

How did you find out about your connection to these great pillars of the music community? Well, when I moved here from Louisiana, I started researching my aunts, the Williams sisters, and found out that by different ones marrying different ones that I was related to all these families. I just started crying; I couldn't believe it.

How important is it for people to know their roots? It's very important. I learned why I was so interested in politics and singing—it shows you where your talents come from.

When did you start doing your wonderful pastels? Actually, in high school.

Do you mostly depict famous people? Pretty much, lots of Elvis and Hank people, who mean something to me. I've done some self-portraits and pictures of my kids.

What's the key to life? Having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. And discovering what part your personal history plays in your future.
