A Face in the Crowd
Here’s how it works: A Boy Scout is part of a patrol, which is part of a troop, which is part of a district, which is part of a council. Nashville is headquarters for the Middle Tennessee Council, where you will find dedicated folks like Larry Green serving over 46,000 youths in the area. As senior district executive of the Dan Beard District (that’s southeast Nashville to us civilians), Larry does have an office in the council building on Hillsboro and Woodmont. But, good Boy Scout that he is, he spends much of his time outside, working with over 30 Cub Scout packs and 25 Boy Scout troops in southeast Nashville. With three decades of service under his belt, Larry is a veteran who counts among his proudest achievements the establishment of Troop 77 in the lower-income Howard School area. Troop 77 has made Eagle Scouts out of many a disadvantaged child and is still going strong after 28 years.
