A Face In The Crowd

There are two types of people in this world: Those who use the word “energy” in casual conversation. And those who don’t. Thom Cronkhite falls into the former category. “I work with the energy about a person’s body as well as the energy that’s within the body,” he says, explaining how he pays the rent. Cronkhite is a medical intuitive and vibrational healer, which means that he has absolutely no conventional medical training. But he has traveled the world, including to India and New Zealand, spending time with holy men and mystics. Along the way he has refined an individualized approach to interpersonal care. Cronkhite claims that he can feel electromagnetic fields emanate from a person’s body, detect if there is something out of whack and, amazingly enough, make the necessary adjustments. “Everyone’s human body has a certain amount of electromagnetism or gravity,” he says. “It has emotional components to it, and it’s affected by our thoughts and feelings.” From back pain to attention deficit disorder, a variety of ailments can be treated in such a manner, Cronkhite claims. “I’m able to modify and adjust the energy to straighten it out,” he says, with a soft-spoken, gentle manner that makes his treatment sound as normal as popping a few Advil. A licensed massage therapist, Cronkhite moves his hands along a person’s back, leg or foot and “move[s] the energy around the body and the energy that’s deep within the body.” He also asks his clients whether they’re experiencing any kind of emotional distress that might be the hidden generator of pain. “This is wisdom and knowledge that has been available and used by indigenous people for thousands of years,” he says of his work. For sure, most doctors would view his practice like Meryl Streep might view the Watson’s pool girl, but Cronkhite doesn’t seem to mind. “Western medicine has a lot to do with pharmaceutical companies looking to push their product,” he says. “They’re not coming from a place of truth.” To contact Cronkhite, e-mail him at centerwithin@aol.com.
