      <![CDATA[I virtually never use Yelp or anything similar, even when traveling. Chowhound is a much more useful website, in my opinion, since you can quickly familiarize yourself with trustworthy commenters.

      <![CDATA[I don't use reviews for local restaurants, either, but definitely use them when I travel. I spend months preparing itineraries and consult all the major sites plus blogs (it helps that my dining is a little more specialized; as in, I don't have quite as much data to sift through).

      <![CDATA[The problems with the ratings on a lot of sites is that it's just not an average, but some sort of calculus based on number of reviews and the like. So, on Trip Advisor, a place like City House that doesn't draw a ton of tourist traffic is #65 in their restaurant listings.

      <![CDATA[I think you have to sift thru the user generated reviews, you can't just go by the overall rating. I've read a 'bad' review that goes something like this on more than one occasion: "General Changs Great Big World Of Authentic Chinese Food was terrible!
