Most individuals paying in to Social Security today are guaranteed to get back less than what they paid in. And since the Social Security benefit system is "progessively" engineered to give those on the low end of the income scale back more relative to what they paid than it does for those higher up, it's even a worse deal for them.

And, of course, Social Security is a federal program and this thread is about state taxes.

Percentages of income paid in taxes have nothing to do with proving anything related to tax fairness. No one's income level is a "service" provided to him by the state government.
