Actually, Ed Cole has been selling BRT as something that will shorten east-west car commutes and vice-versa by as much as ten minutes (Whitland neighborhood info meeting) due to less traffic.

Of course, they also gave information regarding BRT lane setup at East Nashville meeting that contradicted what they'd said in West Nashville, so who knows...whatever will please your audience, I guess.

Why not go into Green Hills instead?

Also, @feldredge, bus routes aren't really meant to make car commuters' lives earlier, or their commute shorter.

Light rail is a silly, expensive idea for a city of this size (both geographically and population-wise).

BRT is a great solution, but West End is already very adequately served by the multitude of routes already running.

The Murfreesboro Rd corridor would be a much, much better route to convert to BRT, given the volume of riders, including commuters from LaVergne and Smyrna, who may find driving to, say, Hickory Hollow, muce more palatable than driving all the way downtown, plus the fun-ness of finding parking.

I would still like to know about how they plan to have enough lanes on West End/Harding Road to allow for two dedicated bus lanes. From 440 to St. Thomas, the roadway is only five lanes wide, counting the central turn lane.
