I ALSO BELIEEEEEEEEEEEEVE...that government has no place defining marriage, but that marriage should be defined by the INDIVIDUALS who agree to enter therein.

Treat every individual exactly the same and there is tax or property benefit to marriage.

And the same for every other way that the government stacks the deck. For example, why should two people who earn exactly the same income pay different federal income taxes just because one person decides to buy a house and therefore gets a mortgage interest deduction vs the other deciding to rent?

It's really none of the government's business whether someone chooses to rent or buy and it shouldn't be rewarding and punishing the other.

Replete with some his false choices greatest hits: Individuals can't do everything alone, so the only alternative is putting the federal government in charge of everything. As if there were no such thing as private associations, civic organizations, corporations, etc. whereby people voluntarily engange in collective effort all the time.
