So do we live in a Free Market system or don't we? You're description of the Robber Barron period sounds just like our current system.

Your view of the world is very simplistic.

Back in the days of the Robber Barons, the market was much more free than it is now (there were massive government incentives for building the railroads, but that's beside the point now). The losses were still public--workers were exploited, public land was befouled, wars were fought to benefit said barons, and the wealthy were made ever more wealthy.

One of the most important considerations should be the return on the taxpayers' investment.

I would suggest that those estimates in a business's proposal should also be binding--if the business fails to deliver on those estimates, they should then be penalized accordingly.

That way, taxpayers aren't the ones left holding the bag when expected returns do not materialize--the risk should be more equitably shared.

People who irrationlly hate Obama (a pleonasm, since hate is irrational) for some reason deem themselves superior and therefore entitled to churlishly target with name-calling anyone who does not toe their ideological line.

The fact is that no true conservative supports the waste of Davidson County taxpayer dollars on corporations large enough to demand "incentives" that amount to the County government's choosing winners. Why would any conservative declare in favor of relieving a wealthy, powerful corporation from paying taxes, like property taxes, that 99% of County businessmen must pay?
