>>But Nashville is full of white people and I'm half-white! I should go save them" is just not really plausible.<<

Not merely because he's 1/2 white, but because he possibly had either A) seen the writing on the wall; or B) had financial motive to do so.

I would assume that, at least until his change of mind (and probably after, to one degree or another), Finnelson identified as Cherokee rather than European-American. That seems clear from the fact that he was asked to go among the Indian nations to promote a joint war.

Bob, the simple reason is that some U.S. white people at the time had a view of race somewhat similar to yours that simply wasn't shared by other white people on the continent and would have seemed very strange and hilarious to the Cherokees at the time.

You were a Cherokee at this time if a clan was willing to claim you. For children who had Cherokee mothers (whether or not they had Cherokee fathers), their clan was the clan of their mother.

      >>Findleston [sic] a half breed Cherokee<<

Good article for history buffs such as myself.

However, if he was indeed a "half-breed", WHY was he considered "Cherokee" & betraying his "people"? Why is not looked at as saving his "people" (his OTHER half)????

Much like our fearless leader who is 1/2 of two races yet considered black, I don't understand why one race overrides the other.
