I guess when one cannot begin to think of ANY sort of factual rebuttal, nor small gathering of logical thought, one can always resort to 4th grade name calling.

Is there any doubt why the Dim Party no longer is considered any sort of player in TN politics with such childish voters to depend on?

I can't wait until Nobama is voted out in Nov & the Senate becomes Republican-majority as well. Liberal heads exploding will be a hilarious sight to see!!!!!

And therin lies the problem(s), IMO. Merit pay isn't "incentive pay", IMO.

But why doesn't merit pay work?

Your answer is plausible. But so is the possibility that teachers fear the ostracism of trying to achieve rewards for working smarter or harder.

"in reality, most teachers already teach to the best of their ability."

Which is why we need higher salaries, merit pay and better conditions to attract better teachers.

"Also aren't things like merit pay and rewards for improving one's skills part of professionalism?"

Merit pay doesn't work to improve performance, Mark, and there are plenty of studies to prove it. And the reason that is doesn't work is that, in reality, most teachers already teach to the best of their ability.

That is an excellent argument for only placing TFA teachers into higher grades where learning patterns have already developed. There are many aspects of education that require understanding of how children learn but there are also areas where subject knowledge is more important.
