The old argument of the anti-war left was that Ho Chi Min was a nationalist, not a communist. I tend to agree with that view although Ho was educated by the French left so one can never be sure.

You're swimming against the current on this man. That doesn't necessarily mean you're wrong but the south has always been more conservative than the rest of the country. The south swung to the Republicans because they started talking their language.

No doubt there are elements of that in the modern Republican Party but let us not forget that the modern Democratic Party has it roots in an intellectual mindset that led to wholesale treason in support of the Soviet Union and an elitist hatred for the ordinary people and society that spawned them.
