After seeing Gloria Grahame in the movie, I could believe the sordid details. You can sense the simmering under the surface.

And I always thought Bogart's characters had this contained explosiveness inside as well, but in this role they let him explode -- a very tough performance.

I was also drawn to how Ray pushed the edge when it came to a couple of taboos in 1950.

Bubbadog, if you've never seen IN A LONELY PLACE, it will wreck you. A strong contender for the best noir ever made.

It's actually even more lurid than that. But as bmazor says, you could look it up.

Fun fact: Miss Graham went on to divorce Nick Ray, having had an affair with his teenage son Tony, and eventually married him and had a son with him. You could look it up.

Looking forward to seeing this, along with Rebel without a Cause. I thought I'd seen every Bogart movie, but this one has totally escaped me.
