That means having sex with one woman at a time and I wholeheartedly concur! The problem with modern society is that the majority of people are having wild European style sex orgies with multiple people at one time, of course multiplying the risks of getting pregnant!

I grant that. The issue is why stop at 'teaching' prevention to kids who can't be trusted to have a beer.

My point was that if the reason to teach abstinence or safe sex is good public policy, specifically reducing teen births {and abortions}, then the default should be the most practical method of pregnancy prevention i.e. Norplant or something similar.

Think of it this way, which is more likely to impact my life, a 17 year-old girl with two kids and no father or a guy who has fathered three children but pays no child support or provides any help to their mothers or someone who is 19 and in good health who doesn't want to pay for health insurance?

This is a flawed and silly assertion rooted in misinformation. It overlooks or ignores demonstrated empirical benefits of sex education, and it equates two approaches that have yielded markedly different results in research studies.

Betty, you are just as naive if you believe there is an 80% or an 88% pregnancy rate among those having sex as the person who believes arming youth with abstinence only training as the sole form of STI/birth control is an effective message to teach.

Listen, folks, I was going to continue to be snarky for good fun and let Rachel from Women's Health News come in and drop some wisdom on you, but I just remembered that she is out of town.

So let me interrupt our fun to just remind people that any failure rate on your birth control is NOT how often someone who uses it gets pregnant. Condoms don't have a 1% failure rate resulting in 1 in 100 condom users at any given moment becoming pregnant.

What a "failure rate" means is "how well does it do what it says it does?"

Condoms work by preventing sperm (and certain STIs) from getting to the other side of a rubber barrier.
