      <![CDATA[It seems to be a strategy these days when a politician gets caught having an affair or some such thing, that he resigns from something - thought not the entire job - immediately, apparently in the hope that it will appease the public enough to let him remain in office. Sanford immediately resigned from a chairmanship of something-or-other (I'm too lazy at the moment to Google it) and Stanley did as well, as if it were somehow blindingly obvious they must do so, when actually it was just an attempt at neck-saving.
