Tbe encore Western channel shows somme pretty good westerns fairly often - classics like "Winchester 73" with Jimmy Stuart and "The Searchers" with John Wayne (probably the greatest character he ever played in a western in that one).

Some of those Randolph Scott westerns made in the 50's are pretty good. I don't much care for those old serialized Westerns from the 30's and 40's like Hopalong Cassidy, though.

Of course, about half the movies that come out now are just remakes of older movies (or so it seems to me).

With the latest example being the western remake of "3:10 to Yuma".

The orignal had Glenn Ford as the villian.

Both the original and the remake are first-rate—Russell Crowe and Christian Bale give just about the best performances I've seen in a movie all year that aren't by Cate Blanchett. But the Ford-Van Heflin dynamic in the original is just as strong.

This is an outrage, and, of course, since it's not on the Internet, I question its very existence in the first place!

Bravo showed that scene (although slightly censored) in its "100 Scariest Movie Moments" marathon a few days ago.

Carpenter's Halloween is infinitely scarier using little more than shadows and strategic framing.

Halloween and Prince of Darkness are my favorite Carpenter flicks, both coincidentally starring Donald Pleasance.

Roger: Tell your "friend" to run a Google search on actress Barbara Crampton (yes, that's her name) and, er, see what comes up. Haven't found any photos, though, but I just know they're out there.

To set the scene: nude woman strapped spread-eagled to table, horny zombie with reanimated detached skull...the rest I'll leave to your friend's imagination.

The Thing, to me, is another exception that proves the rule. Good director plus gore is a whole other equation, and John Carpenter has me so freaked out by all that open widescreen framing and that pervasive chill that I'm pretty much ready to jump anyway.

I want to say for the record that nowhere on the Internet does there appear to be any sort of "giving head" scene from Re-Animator, at least not for free public viewing. This is an outrage, and, of course, since it's not on the Internet, I question its very existence in the first place!

Um...er...at least, that's what a friend told me who ran across this post.

That clip was gag-a-licious. And gore is fairly stomach-churning for me, but not scary like say even your most run-of-the-mill possession in a horror film.

A side note: For some reason I almost never find gory movies scary. Over-the-top gore typically just makes me laugh, whereas something suggestive can give me nightmares.
